Take a long hard look at the image above, and the image to the left. Then read this. Because if we do nothing, that is what is coming to a theatre near you.
Well, when we first found about this, we didn't really see it coming. That's because that is how these shell companies operate. They want everyone to be in the dark until it's too late to stop it. They quietly and strategically infiltrated our tiny small town and for all intents and purposes, have preyed upon elderly land owners who really didn't see this coming either.
To be honest, for most of us, we were initially coming at this from a selfish standpoint of the simple things you would expect: worries about our view, worries about the noise, worries about the drop to our property values.
We found out about it after our neighbors signed over their land for 40 year contracts to be used for these utilities. Yes I said 40 years. To our understanding, our neighbors who are participating in this solar project were "sworn to secrecy". This is one of the tactics of these companies, so nobody will know what is going on until it's too late. It's happening all over the state, and country. More on that later.
So we attended the open meeting that only a handful of us were invited to, and we were told how wonderful this project is. I asked a bunch of questions, reasonable questions, and was met with non answers or gibberish, to be frank. I will attach the list of questions I posed to this company. (I will note, I sent them this list and I have yet to get a written response back.)
You see, they are not interested in written responses or putting anything in writing. Rather, they prefer to meet with homeowners alone, at home and try to get these projects thru by making backdoor backroom deals with people. It's frightening.
Because you see, if they are able to retain enough lands to get the the magic "100 Megawatt" status, then all requirements to give locals a voice, or to involve local city or county zoning ordinance fall to the wayside. Instead, local zoning and voice are replaced by the recently crafted "Model WI Solar Ordinance" and decisions on these projects are made by a group called the Public Safety Commission (PSC).
Once this goes to the PSC, things get even more scary. Most people who have tried to stand up to the PSC have failed. We supposedly have "a voice" but the bar is so high it is often unattainable. And the projects go up. And people have to suffer and live with the consequences.
So, please, let me take you on a little journey on what we have discovered so far. We will share everything we have found so far. You can make your own judgement after you have reviewed this. We would love to hear from you and your thoughts as well.
Ok so let's start with the basics. We all need power to live. We are asking ourselves the question: Is this project even going to provide a sustainable, reliable source of power? We asked the project manager for that data, and he was not able to provide it. We are left wondering, how are these projects getting approved left and right if we do not have proof that these projects are reliable and will be able to generate the energy we need? We are still waiting for those answers. Why would we, given our climate, feel comfortable relying on this type of energy as the mainstay of our power? Show us the science that supports this decision making. We are eagerly waiting to review those materials.
Moving on the the land use aspect. We are frankly sitting back baffled that the state of WI would sign off on this project to use one of our most precious natural resources, our prime agricultural land, to acres and acres of solar fields. How does it make any sense in the world for us to convert prime ag land into a solar field? What is going to happen to the economy and the price of food when we loose thousands and thousands of prime ag land and have it converted into a public utility?
Frankly, it seems like one of the worst land use management decisions we could possibly make. For the sake of power, we are creating a possible food insecurity and devaluing one of our most prized and precious resources. Why would anyone in their right minds think this was a good idea? Would it not make more sense to place them over existing parking lots and infrastructure?
We asked that question. We were told that the ag land is perfect because it is already flat, and it's easy to work with. Yeah, well no shit, Sherlock. But wait, just because it's easier doesn't mean that's the best thing for the land or the people, right? I mean, that is after all why we have Zoning and laws, right?
Well, that was true until the "Green NEW DEAL" came to town. That law came in and said that we have to get our ducks in a row, and get the solar and wind show "on the road". Meaning, we have until 2035 (fact check me) to get off the juice and into renewables. So, the driver behind all of these bad decisions is that timeframe. And......then there's the money. (SHOW ME THE MONEY!)
So there's all this honeypot government money out there that's super enticing for these companies, and they simply cannot resist. So, they got together, and formed some hedge funds overseas (more on that later) and are fronting the money to get these projects built. And built FAST. Then they sell them to the local utilities and scamper off with a boatload of cash. Boom. So all of these Govt subsidies are going to off shore hedge funds. Hmmm... the plot thickens.
Maybe you are still "pro solar" at this point, and think we are a bunch of sad little MAGA whiners or something. Welp, yeah on some levels, but no. We are a diverse group here, and there are folks on all sides. We have crossed the political lines to join forces and reveal the ugly underbelly of this so called "GREEN" New Deal.
Let's talk about that hedge fund. One of the companies, the one we are dealing with, is sourced out of Switzerland, and two of the hedge fund companies appear to be from China. Before you get your knickers into a twist, hear me out. We followed up, and it turns out, these investors are the folks that are making the solar panels. Hmmmm....ok....so we are not buying American panels to use for this project, we are buying Chinese panels and giving them our government subsidies too. If we HAVE to do this, and have not other CHOICE, why are we not buying AMERICAN to keep the monies here domestically?
We thought you would never ask. Likely, the answer is that we do not have the resources or infrastructure to handle the volume of panels. Also, there's another even more dastardly discovery. We have good reason to believe that the people making these solar panels are conscripted workers. (AKA: slaves). We will be providing proof of this; we are working up the documentation on that now. OK, so NOW do you see why we are so concerned?
So, meanwhile, back at the completed trashed Ag fields.......you see, they drive giant stakes into the ground to mount these panels on. No biggie right? WRONG. You see, to control flooding, Farmers install something called a "drain tile". What it does, it controls the water and sends it to drain ditches so the fields do not flood. Farmers put a lot of time and energy into keeping these tiles lines up. It's expensive, and labor intensive. Farmers all do this so that they control the water and prevent flooding.
Now, imagine if you will, acres upon acres of farmland with smashed and destroyed tile lines. Imagine the sheer terror you would feel if your property was abutting these lands. You will be laying awake at night in fear of the next rainfall, my friends. Because you will know that your lands will likely be the unhappy recipient of lots and lots of water from the adjoining fields that now have no ability to properly tolerate or manage the incoming rainfall.
If you are a homeowner, this could mean your basement floods, and your lawn is soaking wet. It could mean that your landscaping dies from being flooded. If you are a farmer, that could mean that your land will be too wet to work up, to plant, to harvest. It could mean that you lose your crop to the flooding. It could mean that your soil is damaged from being waterlogged. It could even mean that your soil gets picked up and carried away from the volume of water. What then? No money can fix that. Once the soil is damaged, your livelihood is compromised.
Wait a minute, stop the press. Doesn't the government go to great lengths to control erosion on build sites? Yes, yes they do. But for some reason, these companies are getting a pass on this. Maybe write a letter and ask the PSC why. We are, and we are getting crickets back. Crickets.
Oh, well if "they" causes problems on your land due to this erosion, smashed drain tiles, etc there's some recourse right? We don't know. We have asked the company, and again, they tell us NOTHING. Oh we are just Worry Worts, hand wringers, and ambulance chasing right? NOPE. Don't take our word for it. Go see for yourself. Check out the farms all over that are suffering with this mess. Right here in WI and in MI. You can see the videos of the destruction on our resource section. Coming to a flooded Ag field near you.
So, ask yourself this question, why are we decommissioning perfectly good, robust, tried and true power plants and setting up an frail weak energy source in our state that has not been proven reliable? The Green NEW DEAL.
One strong hail storm and our power won't be down for a couple of hours. Think weeks to get that back on line. This is terrifying. Buy stock in diesel generators now people. How will we get the solar back on line if there's an ice storm, hail storm, or a tornado? We need energy that is reliable given our dangerous climate.
So, if you can get past the fact that our government subsides are going off shore, that the panels are built in China, not in America, and likely constructed in a manner that involves catastrophic and unimaginable social and environmental injustices including slavery, and the loss of irreplaceable prime agricultural farmland......then we can start talking about other issues such as property rights, wildlife, rural aesthetic, and the view.
We hope that this narrative will help you see that this is far from a partisan issue. This is an issue that every American, every humanitarian, every nature lover, everyone who likes to eat food should be concerned about so that maybe you can keep this from happening in your town as well.
Not only that, this really boils down to apparent elder abuse. These predatory companies appear by all accounts to be isolating and manipulating vulnerable people in our communities into these contracts, and swearing them to secrecy. We do not believe these vulnerable people are understanding what is happening and what they are really signing up for. We are concerned that there may be a real and present danger to our elders, and suspect that they are being essentially preyed upon. We will get into that more in our next installment as we obtain more details and facts that we can share. For now, we will acknowledge it is conjecture. Stay tuned.
We are going to work hard to stop this project from happening. We hope you will join us and help us. There HAS to be a better way to do this. If we allow this to happen, we are dooming the future generations. We are ruining the land for our children and grandchildren. This is NOT a good use of our resources or our precious lands. We MUST find another way to get this done. For the future of our communities, and our people.
Thank you for reading this, and thank you for any help you can give to us. We are reaching out in fellowship and asking for help to STOP THIS MADNESS while we still can. SAVE our FARMS. SAVE our community. And let's not use our government subsidies to fund tragic and real environmental and social injustices! Greed ENERGY and SLAVE Panels. Not a very "green" new Deal.
1) Get Educated
Take some time and check out our archive of resources. We are adding more daily. Find out for yourself what is going on, and get into the "know" with the cool kids. The more you know, the more you cannot look away while this happens. It's really disturbing.
2) Get Connected
We meet weekly. We are an action group, and we are riding hell bent for leather to stop this project in our area. If you want to help, saddle up, partner. We can use another pair of hands.
3) Get Active
We have intel that our letter writing campaign is HELPING. If you are moved, please review suggestions for getting active and getting involved. If nothing else, write some letters and let your elected officials know where you stand on these issues.
Maybe take a look at this film. It spells things out for you.
